New Tangle E2

December of 2024 is here!

I don’t know what it is about this month, but my creative spirit is high. I am taking in the chill of the wind in stark contrast to the warmth of my home, hot coffee, and always looking forward to late-night hot chai.

The western part of India is quite hot during summer, while the minimum temperature in the winter dips to only 8 or 9 degrees here. Yet I enjoy wrapping my shawl, wearing a light jacket or sweatshirt, and walking in my pyjamas during the day. All this is possible because I can work from home.

December reminds me of hope, inner change and a chance to start fresh.

In the evening, after the sun has set, if I look out from my window, I feel hopeful looking at the lighted balconies/verandas decorated with festive lights. People in India generally decorate their homes during Deepavali and leave them as they are until Christmas and New Year.

Now, coming to creativity.

Over a long call with a close friend, a new tangle pattern popped into my mind a few days ago. After the call, I quickly noted it down on a rough sheet. Later, after dinner, I sat on my desk quietly, playing and toying with this pattern. Luckily, I had just printed out a few unfilled tangle step-out sheets that I give to my students enrolled in the Tangle Refresher Course. So, I quickly removed one of the sheets and drew the step-out of the tangle pattern.

So here’s my new Tangle Pattern E2. It is here to celebrate the festive season and the joy of year's end. It embodies the warmth of shared moments, the melody of your favourite song, and the nostalgia of cherished memories. As we reflect on the past year with gratitude for all its blessings, this pattern is my wish for many happy and creative years ahead.

Some more artworks I created using this tangle pattern are here.

Tangle E2 step-outs are very easy to follow.

This tangle pattern reminds me of a star-shaped “tukkal” we often see in the corridors and balconies of homes during Deepavali festive days in India. Look up the link for inspiration to decorate your artwork.

Hope you have loads of fun, playing with this tangle pattern.
