My New Tangle Knot vs O-Knot
This tangle pattern could be your best choice for a your next ZenGem!
Blast from the past:
I created this Tangle Pattern after summer in the Year 2016. How I wish to remember the story behind each of my tangle patterns. Now trying to remember stories behind each tangle pattern becomes a job in itself. …. :)
If you are anywhere like me; please take time today to document your art journey.
I faintly recall that one afternoon I was playing with just an Orb, a Line and some more lines. And fascinatingly tangle O-Knot was born.
Tangle O-Knot is slightly different from the Knot Tangle.
Here’s how I explain -
As you can see, in Step-1, I use an Orb and A straight line on the top.
In Step-2, I pull a line towards the orb from the left end of the top straight line; and bring it only halfway down the orb.
In Step-3 (Step-2 and 3 are done in the same box), I have pulled the line from the back of the orb (like a Hollibaugh tangle effect) - and landed on the line pulled in step-02.
In Step-3 & 4, I have repeated the lines to form the tangle.
In the above picture, I have shown how O-Knot can be organically drawn and placed over each other; with a little shading on the orb. I have drawn the tangle on ATC Zentile. I don’t remember the other tangle shown with it.
Can anyone help me? Please post the tangle name and I will update it here.
Here is a Zendala (i.e. round zentile of a size), from my old sketchbook, where I used Tangle O-Knot, as a border tangle and combined with Tangles Arukas and Spoken from Zentangle HQ.
Some of my friends jovially named the art piece “A pizza”. :-D
Though I enjoyed creating O-Knot; I am always fascinated to try different ways to play a tangle pattern.
I tweaked and re-tweaked Tangle O-Knot several times and then a new tangle pattern hit in my mind, and I named it as KNOT.
A CZT colleague Jasmine Jehangir and a friend of mine, recently published her artwork using Tangle O-Knot here. I loved her variation to the tangle. Very unique of her.
So without wasting time, let’s jump into creating Tangle Knot.
Here’s the step out to the Tangle Pattern:
Here, you can see the obvious difference between Tangle O-Knot and Tangle Knot.
I loved the fluid experience of Tangle Knot here.
In Step-1, we start with an orb and a curvy line. You can create this curvy line at any length around the orb. In my example, I have shown the curvy line almost reaching covering 2/3rd of the orb.
For fun sake, just picture an egg and white yolk on a pan - for your fried egg. Did you get it right? :-D
In Step-2, I start pulling a line from the curvy line towards the orb; as though a small piece of cloth is spun out of the orb. :)
In Step-3, I just pull a line from the bottom of the orb and just echoed the lines, again and again, to cause a nice coverage to the Tangle Knot.

A small snippet video on how I drew Tangle Knot (the pic on left) is here
I have recently posted a video tutorial drawing Tangle Knot inspired by the original steps that I have posted here. You can find the video here.
I often enjoying playing different versions of the same tangle patterns.
In future, I shall post some more of my explorations here.
Hope you enjoy playing with this tangle pattern as much as I did.
