31 Days of Monsoon Zen India - the Year 2020
October 15, 2020
Aishwarya Darbha
In July 2020, being the monsoon season, here in India, we all Czts and Tanglers of India, decided to play a month long fun project. I can't even tell you how excited it was, right from the start.
But whenever there is a month long project, with daily art put up, we all go through some hurdles. So, I too run into issues.
So the rules suggested, that all the artwork should be done on a square tile, using black pen. Well I didn't have enough white square tile. This was my first problem. So I started to think about how to solve the issue, and then I had the weirdest thoughts of creating a handstitched journal book using my “round zentiles”.
So I wanted to create something specifically for the the 31days of the #MonsoonZenIndia2020 Challenge, wherein, we will draw Zentangle Art using daily prompts.
Front Cover of the My Hand-Stitched Round Book
I watched a few #youtube tutorials for inspiration and decided to create anything that is available at home. First I decided to go for square 3.5inches Zentiles but soon realized, that my stocks are getting over. But I had loads of 4inches Round Tile (cardstock), so started the project with that. After seeing the edges, was afraid if it was going to remain steady enough, that's when I remembered my Matt Gel, and I glued the edges with it. I used a hard grey cardstock that I had for samples for both the front and back. They are of different tones, which I am sure is going to be fun!

And this is what I created throughout the pandemic + creative flow process.
So many crescent moons. This was my first Zentangle Pattern and I am also soo fond it.... The exploration of this tangle is endless! So versatile and beautiful it is.
You got to lose track of time, submerge into something soo unique and #original for you. Here the Tangle Nzepple fell and spread all around. That when the large size #hollibaugh bands started rolling over them, nzepples got imprinted over the black bands. Have you played with #glitters in your school days? Doesn't it get into your skin, clothes, face, hair, everywhere..... So #contagious isn't! 😅😍

Day27of 31Days of MonsoonZenIndia2020 Exploring Tangle Arukas, with new micron pen. Past 26 days, for all my drawings for this series, I have used the same #micron01 for everything, right from line drawings, fillings, thickening, adding details, stippling, etc. It has been sooooo gratifying to just see how one pen can create so many artworks. Even now, the pen is in running condition, just that the ink has lightened a bit, and thus will give beautiful subtle line drawings. I am going to keep switching back n forth with the new and old pen. Have you tried this challenge out? Its so worth it. Its a way of expressing gratitude to the tools we have at hand.

How many better ways, can this art be possible?
4 ½ years in this, and still digging into my creativity.

Day2 of 31Days - Tangle Cubine When #sheldoncooper went ahead, in search of a symmetrical universe, his string theory couldn't be proved...But what begin the journey for #sheldonandamy , and the stringtheory of #thebigbangtheory friends is that, there is No Symmetrical Universe, rather a A-Symmetrical Universe, that balances between the black and white; right and wrong; good and bad. There is #asymmetrical book here, asymmetrical Cubine and the art of only creating beautiful love. All, I try is to balance between the two extremes of good and bad.
Rick's Flux and Maria's flux Day5 of 31Days of #ZentangleIndia #MonsoonZenIndia2020 #31dayschallenge Tangle focus: Flux Rick's Flux and Maria's flux gave me an opportunity to understand the friendship between the two different sort of people, who in genuine friendship and love, gave birth to the Zentangle Methodology of art. The combination of dancing and artistic expressions of zentangles, along with the meditation and peacefulness of this artform is really enigmatic and inspiring.
When I think of the Tangle #DraWings , I think, what more can I do with this beautiful wing like shape. And because I am often awake at night, and draw in the silence of my home, I am always attracted to the flying #moths . They are sisters to the butterfly, don't carry the colors of the butterflies, but on their wings they carry #textures and #patterns . Subconsciously #inking them on paper, have only increased my curiosity to learn more about them.
Day 7 Tangle Jetties on my #Handstitched book. In my teens and a bit later, I was way too attracted to the silver like #oxidizedjewelry and #accessories . I enjoyed the #oldfashioned jewellery, those black, dark, rusty feel. These oxidize jewellery came in different shapes like a telephone, hat, shoes, dolphins, dolls, teddy, and so much more. I used to wonder why would anyone not pick it up from the store; and how were they always available to me? But, then I would smile and take them home. Those little weird things talked to me as though they loved me and were made for me. And I would just always wear them with my T shirt and Jeans. When introduced to jetties tangle, I was once again reminded of my little collection...
Whenever I imagine a garden, it should be like my moms, for she has filled our little garden with so many varieties of crotons, succulents, shrubs and different variety of cactus plants. Some how opus always reminds me of the creepers, that mom has been growing since years. They add so much greenery to her little home. 😍 Day8 Tangle Opus
So I started this artwork in the completely wrong way. My step-outs of the tangle came out wrong and only after 20 minutes of creating, I realized my mistake. So, if it was my past me, I would simply feel hurt, and sad, for I lost a page of my journal and if anyone peeks in (btw which no one does), will bring out The Mistake and find out that I am perfect... So to rather show it out, I would paste the page, give up on an art challenge (telling myself it’s exhausting n stressful), or tuck away my art book for later times, etc. But, now the new me, is done with those escapes. Working through the potholes and roadblocks though doesn't come easy always, is now my New Way. And so, I continued drawing with Tangle Gneiss. Blackened with my #micronbrush darkened the center where the mistake happened, allowed it to dry for a few hours, and went over with my #gray and #whitegellyrollpen & like magic it all came out lovely 😍❤️
#day9 of #31days #zentangledaily #monthlychallenge #Tangle #toodles Today, I decided to finish one of my #unfinished business, a pending artwork that needed to be completed... When I say use the word "past", it is often seen in a negative way; we say - - - get past this, let go off the past, past is a lesson, past was a Suck, I have forgotten my past, etc..... But think, if it wasn't our past, we have no present. And past is the gathering (bunch of experiences), a story we are going to carry. So why not make friends with it?
Day16 of 31Days of Zentangle Challenge Tangle Quib. My brain was wired differently as I took on the quib tangle. The sooner i started to draw, images of wales, sharks, aquatic plants, all started appearing before my eyes. My movement went in ways undefined by me or anyone else. At one point i felt i will ruin the page; but how can anything go wrong when you are in gush of muse!
I am also planning to share this whole series in bits and pieces, along with the creative spirit, and inspiration behind each of these art pieces, in my future blogs.
